Early Childhood Centres

In 2013 Kindergarten children will be housed in the purpose built transportable building located on the main school site in Fitzroy Street, Dianella. Pre-Primary will initially be in Room 2, until the library is renovated creating a comprehensive early childhood centre. This means that we will be operating a separate Kindergarten and a separate Pre-Primary.

The Pre-Primary students have a buddy class for special activities and are also able to work with the Year 1 children. Once they are ready and confident, the Pre Primary children eat their lunch with the older children and share their facilities with the Year 1 group. Many staff help supervise the Pre Primary children from time to time, which assists the transition process for the following year.

The Kindergarten students will also be involved with buddy activities from time to time.

In 2013 the Early Childhood Centre will be open for five full days for Pre-Primary and 2.1/2 full days for Kindergarten.

Full days can be accessed from the start of the year, or parents can, over a period of a month gradually introduce their child to the school routine with half-day sessions. The staggered entry is valuable in helping the children settle into the program. A discussion with a member of staff to look at your child’s needs, would be beneficial.

The West Morley PS Early Childhood program caters for the individual needs of children via the Curriculum Framework. You will be kept up to date with your child’s progress through class meetings, individual interviews, assemblies, work samples, Reports and an Open Evening.

The early years of education form a distinct and important phase of a child’s school life. Providing children with a good start to these crucial years is essential for successful school and life long learning.

Please become actively involved in your child’s Centre, to ensure that the greatest possible benefit for your child is gained from the first years of education.
